Veloce 16 - hULL cONSTRUCTION

The Veloce 16 features an extremely strong and lightweight ply on frame hull. The main engine bearers run almost the entire length of the boat adding considerable rigidity. The transverse frames feature plywood gussets for additional strength. The laminated stem is bonded and through bolted to the 2 piece laminated keel.

Engine bearers, frames, stem, and keel are all constructed from solid Sapele. The hull is Lloyds approved marine ply (12mm bottom, 9mm sides). Chine logs and sheer clamps are laminated Siberian Larch. Bottom and side battens are Douglas Fir. The deck is cold molded (double diagonal) and sheathed in glass fibre on both sides. All permanent hardware used is Silcone Bronze. All structural connections use West System epoxy and the entire hull is sealed with Gurit Ampro epoxy inside and out prior to application of any paint or varnish. The outer skin of the hull and deck are sheathed in glass fibre / epoxy.

Veloce 16 - AIR INTAKE cONSTRUCTION

A custom air intake was designed to feed cool air to the engine. A baffle system integrated into the engine hatch beams prevents water from entering the carburettor (see Engine Hatch Construction). The air intake is made from flax fibre and bio-resin. Vacuum bagging was used due to the complex shape. The final piece was post cured due to its location directly above the engine.

Veloce 16 - ENGINE HATCH cONSTRUCTION

The engine hatch features a Sapele frame with laminated beams. A baffle system integrated into the engine hatch beams prevents water from entering the carburettor. The air intake cutout features a lip onto which the air intake is bonded. Carbon fibre strips are added to the central longitudinal beams to provide additional strength in way of the cutouts required for clearance above the engine. The hatch is secured to the boat with custom stainless steel concealed hinges which are fully adjustable to ensure a perfect fit. Stainless steel gas struts allow the hatches to be opened with ease and cam locking latches allow the hatches to be opened and closed. A weatherseal and drainage system ensures water that enters the gaps around the hatches is discharged overboard.
